Only Kansas City, and KC Pet Project, could pull this off.
On the weekend of September 13th, 30 of our shelter dogs will be taken out on Furlough to experience the ultimate dog day out in Kansas City! Furlough gives these dogs the opportunity to experience what life is like outside the shelter and what it feels like to be a part of a family. Attendees have the option to sponsor a dog from our shelter for a deserved day on the outside.
And, new this year, there is also an option for dog owners to bring their own pet out to participate in the fun! We have partnered with multiple businesses all throughout the Kansas City area that will offer giveaways and fun, dog-friendly activities. Your sponsorship raises money for the 10,000+ animals we care for every year. It also includes one waived adoption fee should you (or someone your dog meets on Furlough) decide you’d like to keep them forever!
KC Pet Project, the 501c3 nonprofit operator of the Kansas City, MO animal shelter, is the largest No-Kill shelter in Kansas City, MO, and the 3rd largest open-admission No-Kill shelter in the United States. We are keenly focused on progressive, life-saving policies and programs and work under the motto “Solutions – Not Excuses.”
More than 10,000 pets will come to KC Pet Project in 2017, each one in need of a soft bed, medical care, nourishing food, life-saving vaccinations and hope for a home. Your support and generosity will make the difference in the life of a homeless dog or cat in Kansas City. Together, we are creating a No-Kill Kansas City.
“The 2015 KCPP Furlough event was my first exposure to fostering. KCPP were so thoughtful about selecting dogs to participate, they paired me up with a sweet little lady named Posey who was a perfect fit for our home and family. She was so much fun to have all weekend and we really enjoyed the excuse to get out around town in order to show her off at the different KCPP events. The experience was so rewarding that we not only kept Posey as a foster until she was adopted into her forever home, but went back to KCPP for more, continuing to foster dogs, all because of the furlough opportunity.”
“We’ve partnered with KC Pet Project on a number of things, but this one was easily the most rewarding. We were paired with a shy redbone coonhound named Cinnamon, and for her furlough, we pulled out all the stops. Everyone at our store loved her to pieces, with the entire staff showing up (sporting party hats) for a welcome party. She ran around in big backyards with other dogs, ate all the healthy treats we could put in front of her, and generally learned that life can be pretty great. We ended up fostering her until the day when her forever family came to meet her and whisk her off to a 15 acre farm. We were sad to see her go, having fallen in love with her. But we were happier still for having had her in our lives. Furlough is one of the most engaging initiatives that KCPP has ever done. Count us in, every year!”
